Hi, there. Rachel from Geek Unicorn and you're watching Geek Unicorn TV. Today I'm going to talk about how to create content when you really hate writing blogs. I suffer from this problem. It's not so much that I hate it, it's just that once I start getting into it, I find my creativity dries right up, or I spend an hour on a paragraph. It's just pretty brutal. Me trying to do a blog post written out can be really hard for me. I've heard it from other people, too. They just don't like writing, or they find it takes a really long time.
So, what I do is, I record a video. I also have a podcast. So, there's a couple ways you can do this. If you are good at talking, or even if you're not good at talking, try the talking method, and then have that audio transcribed. So, you can have audio transcribed. There is lots of transcribers in the world will do it for you. It's anywhere from a dollar to three dollars a minute, typically, and there is a website called Rev.com. R-E-V.com that will transcribe your videos for a buck a minute. That's US dollars, and so you can then take that video that you have and you can create a blog post from the video, but then include the transcript, because it's really the transcript that's going to help with search engine optimization.
Search engines are getting better at listening to the audio of a video, but they're still not quite there yet. They really do need the text, or they need the closed captions on a video to understand what that video is about. I'm going to show you what my blog post looks like when I do a video, and I'll show you why, why I do it this way.
I'm going to just share my screen here. Oh. Let's get that out of the way. Okay, so you can see here this was on my website. This is a blog post. It was How to Create a Google Review Link You Can Send to Clients, and then I just put like a little quick introduction. It didn't have to take me a long time to do, and then you can see I have my video here, and then below that I included my transcript.
So, all these things are really helping my SEO. The transcript's helping my SEO, if you listen to my video, which I will mute, you can see I have closed captions. That is help my search engine optimization. Now, what I did with particular video is, I content marketed. It is on YouTube, but I content marketed my blog posts. So, this is the blog post that I marketed. I didn't market or share the YouTube video except for through my posts, but if you go to look at my YouTube video, it has over five almost 6,000 views. So, over 5,000 views, and that's because once I started generating traffic and views in through my blog page, it also increased the views on my YouTube page, and then my YouTube video automatically started to get higher and higher in its own search ranks.
So, I got a lot of views just on YouTube alone by having it on my blog and kind of kick starting the content marketing through my blog. So, this is a really, and then I think, I believe I do rank on Google for how to create a Google link that you can send to clients. So, this was an example of a really good way that I created content. I didn't have to write the blog. I did what was comfortable to me, which is to do a video, and then I posted it on YouTube, but I used the embedded YouTube video onto my blog post. I content marketed my blog post, and then that sort of started that snowball effect of then increasing my rank in YouTube as well as on regular old search engines like Google.
Although, obviously Google owns YouTube. Anyway, that's a really great thumbnail pause for me. I'm going to un-share this and get back. So, again if you don't like creating content, or if you don't like writing, I should say, go for the video method. If you don't like video, you're like, "Look, I don't like seeing myself on camera. I'm totally ashamed," I get that, too. You can practice first with videos. I encourage you to practice with your videos and just keep doing them. You'll eventually get more comfortable, and then the second thing, you can totally just do a podcast or a audio recoding and no video.
You don't have to do any video, and have that transcribed. If you're like, "I literally have nothing to say. I can't talk anything. I can't write anything. What do I do to create content?" Well, you can get a content writer, but I totally get that getting a content writer can be a little bit expensive for some people. A well written blog post can cost $200-500. So, if it's not really meeting your marketing strategy to be investing that kind of money, then that might not be the way that you want to go.
You want to consider either hiring people to write content for you, or asking people in your network. There is lots of people who are willing to write blogs for free. You just sort of have to give them a lot of time and space to be able to create that content for you, and then you want to make it valuable for them. So, if you have a network that you can share with. Another really great way to do it is to create what's called an expert round-up post, and these are posts that you curate short responses from a whole bunch of people, and if you watch my next video, you will see how to create one of those things, and I also have a link for a template on how to approach people to write an expert round-up blog in that video.
So, you want to make sure that you check out the next video for how to do an expert round-up post. Thanks for watching.
